Oushak-Anatolian-Kars Rugs
The pile of this light colored Oushak carpet is not sheep wool but the much more lustrous, long staple hair of the Angora goat. As a result the light side- dark side contrast of this piece is accentuated. The large scale pattern revolves around a leafy center, embedded in a close scatter of various palmette, curvy leaves and floral sprays, all on a rust ground. A matching border has striking high lights in powder blue. The almost square size is uncommon in decorative rugs of this period. The large scale and soft colors are particularly popular with designers.
Vacuum your rug frequently and use a vacuum which uses suction and does not have bristles. If possible, set vacuum to low power setting and vacuum the rug up and down and do not use a back-and-forth motion.
If possible, rotate the rug every few years to allow foot traffic to be spread evenly and shade the rug from direct sunlight to avoid fading in areas.
A rug pad is recommended on all surfaces to prevent slipping and stop marking if on floors with grooves or lines. Professional cleaning is recommended every two or three years.
