Antique Subdued Persian Malayer Rug 4'6 x 6'3. This finely woven piece has exceptional velvety wool with a low pile. The pattern of a central medallion with curved bird head projections is repeated in quarters in the corners. This is really a section of an infinite pattern of medallions of which a selection is made by the border. The medallion is called the Azerbaijan medallion as it appears on Persian rugs from that province as well as Shirvan rugs from the Caucasian part of that general area. The soft peach tone of the field colors carries over to the border which uses a closely detailed version of the popular turtle palmette design. Plain inner and outer minor borders are a Malayer feature. The field upon close examination is a tone on tone lozenge lattice in camel and ivory. This pattern is a Hamadan feature.

Vacuum your rug frequently and use a vacuum which uses suction and does not have bristles. If possible, set vacuum to low power setting and vacuum the rug up and down and do not use a back-and-forth motion.
If possible, rotate the rug every few years to allow foot traffic to be spread evenly and shade the rug from direct sunlight to avoid fading in areas.
A rug pad is recommended on all surfaces to prevent slipping and stop marking if on floors with grooves or lines. Professional cleaning is recommended every two or three years.
